Please comment:

Nantfawr woods are special for walkers, particularly elderly and children. To have a large Road running through this green area would drastically change the peaceful selling and enjoyable park it is. To find peaceful areas to enjoy the outside aand where children can play safely are few and far between in urban areas. Use existing roads as suggested if you think more people than now will be cycling. Also the lights on proposed cycle way behind heol esgyn would affect these houses at night

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

The cycle routes converge onto an area of green space near the river Nant fawr of Rhydypennau road .This is an area which is green belt providing a green space allowing walking and exercise . The area is in constant use and provides a safe area for schoolchildren to walk to school away

This concept ignores the need to preserve area for walking and recreation to promote the mental health of the population as was envisaged by the Hodge legacy . The Nant fawr woodland provides unique natuaral, habitat for wildlife which would be destroyed by the plans .With Cardiff’s increasingly dence population the preservation of woodland and green space is vital, as it is already in constant use .its loss would have a devastating impact on the young and older population who have few community areas to allow socialisation . Cardiff needs to look wider ..cycle routes can decimate area into no go area for pedestrians . Would motorised cycles be allowed ?... they have had fatal consequences in London Who is going to police the area ? There have always been issues near Cardiff high with Drugs ... what about the Safeguarding issues re you for people Lighting will impact in the Bat population . The streets are already a danger to walk along due to condition of thr roads and pavements now the only safer place to walk could be lost leaving many elderly people isolated and trapped .

The additional schemes will have a significant detrimental impact on the nant fawr woods area. This is a valuable natural resource which is used by walkers and dog walkers. There is not an alternative space. Creating a new 5.5m cycle way is unnecessarily destructive and wilfully disregarding of this unique nature reserve. Losing trees and other natural habitat is inconsistent with any rational view of preserving one of the few natural habitats left in this part of Cardiff. It is incongruous at best that cyclists are being taken off the road at the expense of those who use the space. Make the roads safer for cyclists. This is an election issue and I expect my local councillors to make sure this development not happen.

Please comment:

I write these comments as a commuter cyclist of 38years in Cardiff, and welcome improved provision for cyclists. The track through Woods Covert will destroy a wonderful bit of wild woodland; why not use the existing track behind Dan y Heol from Heol Esgyn? The track running through Rhydypenau woods will destroy yet another are stretch of wild woodland, when there are existing roads in paralllel. It will be an isolated route, and as a third of the commuting year is in the dark, it is unlikely this would be popular with commuting cyclists (especially female) even if well lit. Building these proposed new routes will significantly impact the sensitive ecology, with felling of trees and a detrimental impact on the species that live there. Lighting will have a further impact. The areas are SNICs, and there are government policies which protect these.

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

There is a strategic footpath from the bottom of Llandennis Avenue to Heol Esgyn that should be shown.

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

No

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

Partially

Please comment, including the relevant scheme reference number(s) in your comments:

Provision for cyclists on existing roads needs to be improved as these are the natural route for cyclists. Hopefully as fewer people depend on cars, the roads will become more attractive to cyclists.

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

Please comment, including location information:

There needs to be improvement to the roundabouts each end of Llandennis Road if these are to be safe cycle routes. Road maintainance, especially near the curb where cyclist travel, is vital to keep roads safe for cyclists.

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

The cost /benefit ratio of the route through Rhydypenau woods & behind Black Oak Road does not seem to be very good. More detail & impact assesment is needed.

The woodland at Nant fawr should not be destroyed to allow a 4m wide cycle route when Rhyd Y Penau road is easily wide enough to accommodate a separate cycle route.
