4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

No

Please comment:

I do not feel that there is sufficient road space inc the footway to safely accommodate cycling as well. Surely it would be safer to channel cyclists towards the river cycle path where vehicles are not a risk to cyclists and where there are no vehicle fumes. The river being so close. This would save a lot of money on introducing the cycleway along the A470.

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

Partially

Please comment:

They are basically stroads, rather than walking routes.

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

No

Please comment:

Walkers and cyclists are often walking in the same area, which causes inefficiencies and is less pleasant

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

Partially

Please comment:

It is not relevant to me

I think there should be a safer and more convenient mechanism for walkers to get across the A470 between Cathays High School to access Bute Park without disrupting traffic. I would advocate a bridge

Partially

The expansion of Cathays High School remains a significant worry for me, particularly given the lack of commitments regarding New Zealand Road remaining blocked to through traffic. I think the direction of travel should be to discourage car journeys moving forwards rather than increasing them.

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

Please comment, including location information:

I think the walking infrastructure in Bute Park needs to be expanded. The council is partially a victim of its own success, but it seems to be getting a lot busier.

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

I would welcome a congestion charge scheme being introduced to discourage car use in the centre of Cardiff.

The route over the bridge over the A48 between Flaxland Avenue and the UHW is already very well used by walkers and cyclists and I would expect already meets the standards - it needs to be connected (through the back lanes) to the identified new routes for walking and cycling along Allensbank Road and Llanishen Street. There should also be a route along the A48 from Gabalfa roundabout to the Gabalfa industrial estate/ the Aldi site and on to the Tesco site connecting to the Taff Trail. An exit from the Tesco site directly onto the Taff Trail should be included as a future proposal and negotiated. Ideally a solution can be found to provide an alternative to avoid the steps to get onto the bridge from the Taff Trail.

Please comment:

Pavements can be be quite narrow, and heavy traffic on North Road makes walking alongside unpleasant
