There should be a proposed cycle route from the new Cardiff Parkways station (where the blue dashed line crosses the railway) towards Hendre Lake, then onwards to Hendre Road, this would help connect the Southern St Mellons area to the new station. There also needs to be a short cycle route from Greenway Road to Newport Road via Bethania Row, it would help knit Twobridge into the Old St Mellons centre. There should also be a proposed route which is in existing bridleway, which goes from Vaendre Lane through Heritage Park, across Lytham Grove and ends up at Cypress Drive, there is an offshoot which goes under Cypress Drive, which could connect Clos Elphan. The link from Hendre Lakes northwards to the centre of St Mellons is also absent as a proposed cycle route (there are currently barriers preventing its use by bikes or pushchairs or wheelchairs. Wern Gethin Lane should be a proposed cycle route, as it is already a traffic free route between cul de sacs towards the lake.

NO solid red lines are shown on the map of Trowbridge/St Mellons!!

I have no objection to these routes but they do not appear to have any coordination or enable an active travel approach. For example there are a number of primary schools shown on the map but no network of routes to approach them either by walking or cycling or both. Why not? For example in the area from Willowbrook Drive to Cypress Drive from Bishop Child's School at one end to the What store at the other end there is not provision of routes for the school in this whole area. Furthermore from St Mellons to eastern High School there is no apparent attempt to provide a convenient walking or cycling route from St Mellons to the school. I think the same can be said for each of the other Primary Schools in the area. Is there something wrong with the document or something wrong with the proposals. If there is nothing left out of the document then the proposals are totally inadequate. They certainly do not add up to an active travel strategy for the area which as a largely flat area is ideally suited to it.

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

Please see comments above.1. The strategy should start with safe cycling and walking routes for each Primary School. 2. There should be a similar set of routes from St Mellons for Eastern High School. 3. The communities of St Mellons and Trowbridge should be joined up with a cycle route to join the Wales Castal Path which can also be developed as a major cycle route to Cardiff Bay and the City Centre.

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

If yes, please provide details below:

Please see comments above. There are additional paths within the area for cycling and walking which should be included and which can be improved. There are a network of off-road paths in St Mellons which are not shown on the map! They could be developed into the active travel provision that is suggested but nor provided by the proposals.

Has the same approach been taken across the City? Why not approach each school to ask what routes are current used and what improvements are need for an active travel approach to 'getting to school'? If each Governing Body responded about the travel network to their school it would make a significant improvement to the proposals.
