1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

Partially

Please comment:

Maes Glas is the most direct route between College Road and Heol Don; why not make this a walking route, too?

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

Yes

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

Yes

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Partially

Please comment:

Accessing the Taff Trail is surprisingly difficult from large portions of Whitchurch: there are too few access points. The walkway at the end of Westbourne Road leading down to Ty Mawr Road is one very promising possible link, and I suggest this is formally made a cycle route, with accompanying improvements to make the hill here easier for children in particular to get up on their bikes.

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

The Coed Arian / Silver Birch Close route seems ideal for access to UHW from Whitchurch. More generally, Whitchurch has many cul-de-sacs and dead-end roads; the more that these can be opened up to adjoining roads for pedestrians and cyclists, the safer and more accessible Whitchurch will be.

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

A route from Whitchurch to UHW via any (better, all) of The Philog, Heol Y Gors, Heol Gabriel and Silver Birch Close would be a vital cycling route for Cardiff University students and staff, and for NHS staff and patients. Also, the Wingfield Road - Erw Las link is a very useful cycle route (and very safe, because of the dead ends), but currently unsuitable for cargobikes because of bollards and cramped shared space with pedestrians.

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

Yes

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

Please comment, including location information:

There is a useful link between Clos Cornel and College Road, but this is currently unsuitable for children's bikes, and particularly unsuitable for cargobikes.

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

The Schedule of Schemes was in many places too vague to either agree or disagree with (e.g. "on road and off road measures"). The railway line forms a very hard boundary to the south of Whitchurch, lengthening many active travel journeys, and any additional routes over or under it would be most welcome. Thank you for all your efforts to make our city more amenable to active travel!

Something along The Philog or another route to allow the bottom of Whitchurch a safer path to the A470.

Additional cycling lanes are often squeezed in where there is not enough room, for example a narrow segregation on a pavement or at the side of a road where there are hazards including drains or where a road dips

I support active travel including walking and cycling, but the routes must be safe and convenient for cyclists and reduce conflict with car drivers

These areas are probably not over run with cars so I presume they are okay.

Pavements must be big enough as this is a very busy, very erratic & dangerous road and will become even more so soon.

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

No

Please comment, including the relevant scheme reference number(s) in your comments:

I'm very happy everyone is getting mobile for their health and it's very kind of you to make roads so accessible for every one but you are forgetting the cars that are parked - some on the pavements, others fully on the road leaving roads impossible for 2 way traffic and dangerous for cyclists & pedestrians.

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

start thinking about one way systems.

Please comment:

N/A - I live in Tongwynlais and don't use these routes currently

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

No

Please comment:

the roundabout at the top of map is OK to navigate as a cyclist, but with children (we use this route to cycle to primary school - Gwaelod-y-Garth at times) it feels dangerous either going over the bridge towards Morganstown/Gwaelod and even on the Taff Trail on the pavement to Taff's Well - although this pavement is wider than usual, the downhill feels dangerous with small children cycling as buses/cars often drive oncoming too quickly down this part of the road)

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Please comment:

But it will need to be made safe for communting with children to school to be really effective

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Wouldn't it be great to have an isolated cycle/walking route which goes under/over/inbetween the roundabout at the top of map (which proceeds to Taffs Well), where these roads connect up with the A470 and the River Taff? ...especially considering the changes being made to the 'Metro' station in Taffs Well which will surely bring more commuters into Cardiff via this route.
