No

Please comment:

Where options permit route cycle paths away from vehicular traffic. Tongwynlais is in parts narrow and can be busy with traffic cutting through the village to avoid the M4 traffic lights at busy times. Better to determine a routing that omits Tongwynlais altogether and joins with the river cycle path. The cycle path through Whitchurch is along a narrow busy road with traffic calming, all increasing the risk to cyclists unless the road may be widened to accommodate a new lane.

1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

No

Please comment:

The map area contains a large open area most suitable for walking - the northern meadows and forest farm

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

No

Please comment:

It is pitifully small. Cyclists need significantly more routes that also need to be safe from vehicles

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

No

Please comment:

Really not enough!

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Partially

Please comment:

Nowhere near safe enough unless vehicles are segregated

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

Use the northern meadows and the Whitchurch hospital site to keep people away from vehicles as much as possible

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

See above

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

Partially

Please comment, including the relevant scheme reference number(s) in your comments:

Segregated routes are essential. The proposed cycle/walking routes are currently dangerous for cycling and will be lethal for less confident cyclists

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

Please comment, including location information:

Segregated cycle lanes on A4054 and A470

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

Could do much better. Roads need more drastic changes to layout to enable Active travel. Look to the Netherlands for inspiration, read the latest Highway Code for walkers’ and cyclists’ rights.

1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

No

Please comment:

No - they only cover a small part of the ward next to Whitchurch Primary School. What about the other schools in the ward?

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

No

Please comment:

The Taff Trail doesn't conform to Active Travel guidelines.

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

Partially

Please comment:

Good to see more walking routes. Not enough detail to determine whether they are appropriate

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Partially

Please comment:

Again good to see more routes but it's not clear whether these are just widened pavements, protected cycle lanes or just paint

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

LTNs to allow children to walk and play safely in residential streets.

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

Modal filtering on residential streets to make cycling safer

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

Partially

Please comment, including the relevant scheme reference number(s) in your comments:

Whitchurch & Ton. Good to see new schemes but there's not enough detail on whether they conform to Active Travel guidelines. The Taff Trail isn't a modern active travel route.

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

Please comment, including location information:

Close Merthyr Road to private cars - modal filtering to allow buses, pedestrians, cyclists and deliveries /emergency access only.

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

Lots of schemes but not enough detail. Feels like a compromise to avoid upsetting motorists.
