1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

No

Please comment:

There are no existing walking routes shown.

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

Partially

Please comment:

The Taff Trail cycle route is too narrow, which causes problems for both walkers and cyclists. A couple of years ago, I fell off my bike and broke my wrist on this section of the Taff Trail when trying to avoid another cyclist, as the path was too narrow for us both to pass safely; my tyre slipped off the edge of the path, and I went over the handlebars. The route itself is good, but the width of the path needs to be larger to accommodate cyclists safely.

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

No

Please comment:

There are no proposed new walking routes.

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Yes

Please comment:

The proposed walking and cycling route along Station Road is urgently needed. Hundreds of school children walk along this road to school and back every day, including children from Hawthorn and Whitchurch Primary Schools, and Glan Taf, Whitchurch and Bishop of Llandaff High Schools. The junction at the entrance to the station car park where Evansfield Road meets Station Road is incredibly dangerous, and a comprehensive solution to make this junction safe should be a key priority for active travel work in the area. In particular, a pedestrian count of children crossing this junction around school start and end times needs to be conducted as this will clearly show the scale of the problem.

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

The route behind Lidl / Andrew's Road is an existing route, and could be considered for upgrading to meet active travel guide requirements. Also, the path along the edge of Hailey Park at the back of Hazelhurst Road, which continues around the edge of the park towards the playgrounds, is a well-used walking route.

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

1. The section of Gabalfa Avenue between Glan Taf school and the library hub is a key desire line for traveling between Llandaff North and Gabalfa, and cars travel at high speeds along this curved and parked up section of road, making it a necessary but dangerous route for cyclists. This road section requires a safe cycle route. 2. The route behind Lidl / Andrew's Road could be considered for upgrading to meet active travel guide requirements for cycling. 3. The path along the edge of Hailey Park at the back of Hazelhurst Road, which continues around the edge of the park towards the playgrounds, is a well-used walking route. However, I don't think that the cycle route should be extended to go past the children's play areas, as this would be dangerous for young children. The cycle path should rejoin the main Taff Trail at this point, or link to the Lidl route proposed in point 2 above.

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

Partially

Please comment, including the relevant scheme reference number(s) in your comments:

Unfortunately, the schemes are in list form only with no accompanying map, and there is therefore insufficient detail to comment on many of the schemes. However, I agree that all the schools in the area require active travel projects to make them safer for children to walk and cycle to. I agree with schemes TT20, TT22, TT23, and TT24. I am not sure whether I agree with TT26, as it would depend on the specifics of the route proposed. I understand that the proposal may reroute the Taff Trail alongside the children's play areas. If this is the case, then I strongly disagree with this proposal as this would be dangerous and unnecessary, and the children's play areas would become a much less attractive and safe place for local children if this scheme were to go ahead. Our children grew up using these play areas, and I would have hated to have the main Taff Trail cycle route alongside the playground entrances, despite being a cyclist myself, as other routes are available! Options to route the cycle element of the Taff Trail away from the play areas should be sought as a matter of priority. Even a separation of a few metres from the playground entrances would be sufficient to prevent the worst of the conflict and risk.

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

Please comment, including location information:

Junction between Station Road and Evansfield Road - urgent works are needed to reduce the danger of this high volume crossing. Creative solutions may be needed, but without this work as a priority, active travel in Llandaff North and between Llandaff North and Whitchurch will be impossible as this is a main route between the two communities and this junction is impossible to navigate safely as a pedestrian. Traffic can approach from four directions with poor visibility, and we have had many narrow escapes on this crossing over the years, with cars rounding the corner at speed or approaching along Evansfield Road with poor visibility around the curve of the parked up road.

Road calming measures along the length of matthewson close to the train bridge as well as widened, make Aberteifi Crescent a one way road system from under the bridge to the junction

No

Please comment:

none shown other than shared use with cycle which is inadequate for shared use

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

No

Please comment:

Path too narrow and shared use. Leads to danger of collision with more vulnerable users and cyclist injury due to collision with dogs not on leads

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

No

Please comment:

There are no new walking routes proposed. Does this mean that walking routes are deemed adequate. There are many locations where footways are too narrow and crossings are insufficient

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Partially

Subject to good implementation and additional routes

1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

No

Please comment:

There are a number of pinch points at both ends of this route, up the hill over the railway and alongside Glantaf on Bridge Road.

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

No

Please comment:

Too narrow, meaning conflict points, very poorly maintained and liable to flooding. Not sure the new route would help either.

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

Partially

Please comment:

I can't see any

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

I think they need to be a bit more joined up around the Glantaf end of Gabalfa Avenue

No

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

I think that there should be a way of looking of getting Taff Trail access directly to Glantaf.
