1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

Partially

Please comment:

Llantrisant Road between the two entrances to Creigiau Village is often overgrown by trees and hedges and it's badly lit. This isn't a plea to rip up even more hedgerows and trees, but they need to be maintained.

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

No

Please comment:

There aren't any. Creigiau is cut off in terms of cycling and walking routes to join the rest of Cardiff and a continuous route should have been planned in as part of the new housing developments, not as an afterthought. More forward thinking cities like Manchester put in their active travel routes pre-development not afterwards, encouraging and making active travel possible from the outset.

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

Partially

Please comment:

Creigiau: The pavement needs to be wide enough with on-pavement parking penalised. Not sure how you can do that without causing more damage to hedges and by also keeping open an important entrance/exit to and from Creigiau though.

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Partially

Please comment:

Creigiau: There’s not enough detail in these proposals and the map is hard to read, Isn't this the route for the Metro? Would the cycle/footpath therefore run alongside it? And what about the fact that someone is currently blocking the junction on this map with Cardiff Road with a notice saying 'private' and a load of builders’ rubble? The proposed routes would work well if they’re constructed to flatten off the steep gradients, are well-surfaced and well-lit to allow commuting all year around, The routes need to encourage smooth flow for cyclists, This means avoiding unnecessary stops and hazards, ideally segregated from walkers and most definitely physically segregated from motorised traffic – not just paint on the road. You also need to encourage and facilitate proper active travel, so it should not be at the expense of the proposed Metro and other types of transport. It's no good if it just became a leisure route which is isolated during darkness, deterring bike commuters from using it so they’re forced onto the busier roads (especially the A4119) leading to the common, ill-informed complaint from some drivers who question why cyclists don’t use (badly designed and unsafe) cycle lanes. Finally, how does the proposed route link with the proposed bus station/park and ride at Junction 33? Cyclists should be able to park their bikes safely and securely and take a bus along the A4232 (or, better still, take a bike with them on the bus). Nextbike stations around the proposed bike routes would also help – is the council going to liaise with the providers about this?

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

As someone else has said, It would be very good to have a walking route between Robin Hill (road into Creigiau) and Heol Pant y Gored so that people could walk to Canada Lakes. Also, we need a safe and non-muddy way of walking and cycling between Creigiau and Pentyrch.

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

Active travel isn't just about Cardiff - the council needs to be liaising with the surrounding local authorities and joining up the thinking. Going out of Creigiau and into RCT, Cardiff already fails to maintain what is a very useful route out of the village which starts on Cardiff/Llantwit Road then turns left into a lane and emerges in Rhiwsaeson. The lane until this point is Cardiff's responsibility, but is always potholed and hazardous to cycle - it needn't be like this! When the lane joins the RCT section in Rhiwsaeson, there are pleasant routes which then connect with the excellent Church Village community route. But, cyclists either have to find a way up a very steep hill (most of us would need to push), or after going along an easy-to-ride lane need to navigate a busy roundabout to join the traffic-free Church Village route at Cross Inn. Some grown-up conversations and integrated policies between the two authorities could create a safer and easy route for cycling to and from Creigiau and the shops/restaurants and other amenities at Talbot Green.

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

You can't look at one or two forms of travel in isolation. The map needs to show proposed public transport services such as the South Wales Metro and buses as well as park and ride so that it's joined-up and clear.

1) Do you agree that the existing walking routes shown (solid red line) are currently suitable for walking?

Yes

Please comment:

There aren’t any solid red lines so can’t really agree or disagree

2) Do you agree that the existing cycling routes shown (solid blue line) are currently suitable for cycling?

Yes

Please comment:

No solid blue lines so can’t agree or disagree

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

Yes

Please comment:

They seem sensible places for new walking routes

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Yes

Please comment:

Would very much like to see the proposed cycle way from Creigiau to Danescourt and onwards as a paved path as I would us it to commute on my bike to work every day if it existed as currently Llantrisant road in its current state is dangerous for cyclists particularly during rush hour.

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

It would be very good to have a walking route between Robin Hill (road into Creigiau) and Heol Pant y Gored so that people could walk to Canada Lakes safely as there are always people walking/running this section and cars speed along this narrow bit of road

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

No

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

Yes

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

No

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

I fully encourage cycle pathways throughout the city, in many places taking precedence over dual carriageway roads. If Cardiff is to become a world leader in reducing CO2 emissions from cars, cycling should be made a lot easier. Also, as a healthcare worker and UHW in particular being a major employer for the city, please make easy connections with current cycle ways to the hospital please

The enigma of the Roman road remains, the st Fagan’s road isn’t wide enough to overtake a cyclist at points, but it is a really direct route. Wide painted lines both sides of the road should solve this

3) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking (dashed red line)?

Yes

Please comment:

No change?

4) Do you agree with the proposed new routes for walking and cycling (dashed blue line)?

Yes

Please comment:

Local families need a better safer cycling route to the museum to spend their weekends. Ely is one of the most deprived areas in Europe but the narrow Roman road that connects it is inadequate and prevents the communities access using cycles to benefit from the free entry without the car parking fees.

5) Are there additional routes for walking (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

Ely forest, to connect with the train line crossing. It floods badly during winter but it is a great walk which needs more footfall rather than dirt bikes burning fuel to make noise

6) Are there additional routes for cycling (existing or proposed) that you think should be shown on the map?

Yes

If yes, please provide details below:

Grand avenue, double wide, easy to cycle along as there is plenty of passing space. Needs double yellow lines along it as cars are parked sometimes two beside each other or blocking the pedestrian footpath. More local pudgy often unemployed with no car parents need the confidence to cycle European style with their children to school, there is no secure cycle parking around Wilson road for this.

7) Do you agree with the proposals in the schedule of schemes for this ward?

Yes

Please comment, including the relevant scheme reference number(s) in your comments:

About time work was done for cycling rather than for car owners. We are twenty years behind infrastructure and culture.

8) Are there any additional schemes you think should be included in the schedule of schemes?

Yes

Scooting should be legal in Ely. Most males in the area are already zipping around. It is the future, taking less space than a bicycle in peoples already small homes, fast charging, portability and price. Add them to cycle lanes to reduce pollution. There are plenty of elderly zooming dangerously in mobility scooters, why is it discouraged for the young yet these silver surfers benefit?

9) Do you have any other comments on the Draft Active Travel Network Map for Cardiff?

Forbid mobility scooters from driving dangerously. These people are very blind and completely deaf, forbid them from using the road (even with plates, this is the group of people who have had their government sponsored motorbility service or regular drivers licence from half a century ago removed from them) The police should take action on rubbish parking, there is never any pavement room for prams or people, as cars squeeze within double yellows (which should not be permitted). I know South Wales polices’ priority is to fight the war against drugs, but car ownership has skyrocketed in twenty years and the travel network can’t cope with storing them on streets with the current negligent enforcement levels. Yours sincerely, road cyclist / medical engineer who loves Cardiff but wishes Cardiff loved them back at all.

You need to cross the road at certain points. Pavement is also narrow and feels close busy and fast road.to

There needs to be some provision for cycling around Creigiau village to the school. This will support initiatives encouraging children to cycling to school.

There should be a walking route from Radyr to St Fagans. Using Footpath 38 in Radyr it should then link up with a Footpath to take the walker into St Fagans by Red Well. If the new builds would enable a route to link up with footpahs connecting Pentrebane Road with St Fagans as well, that would be even better. Capel Llanilltern to Parc y Justice footpath, can that tap itno the disused railway and take the walker to Canada Lakes. Nice place to meet people. Can a link be made to join to the footpath to the Creigiau side of Canada lakes that heads towards Craig y Parc. There could then be a circular walking route where the A4119 only has to be crossed once. Could the new estates have walking links to the footpath by Pencoed Farm. Could the new estates have walking links to the road marked yellow on the OS map to take them to the point by the church where they have to cross the A4119 to get to the Footpath to Parc y Justice.
